Maintenance at Disney
Spanning the size of San Francisco, CA, Walt Disney World spends $100 million on maintaining Magic Kingdom. Of the 62,000 employees, 5,500 are dedicated to maintenance and engineering within the parks.
In order to avoid disruption in the park, 100% of maintenance goes on after visiting hours. Here are some statistics to put the parks into perspective:
- Nearly 12% of Walt Disney World property is devoted to gardens and maintained landscapes. This equates to about 3,000 football fields.
- The water from The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion in Epcot into one-gallon milk jugs and laid them side by side they would stretch 540 miles. The country of France is 590 miles across.
- The 26,000 feet of lights outlining the Epcot World Showcase is long enough to span the Golden Gate bridge six times.
Many resorts, national parks and facilities utilized a computerized maintenance management system to help control maintenance costs, improve productivity and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
