The task library in eMaint CMMS can be a handy tool. It is among the software’s features designed to help you carry out preventive maintenance.
Whether you are using the task library to:
- hold a reminder list of procedures done during routine maintenance,
- report off these steps, to find out which ones are completed or who did which step,
- add comments for each step,
- keep track of repeated failures,
all of this can take place within the eMaint CMMS software.
Instead of having to type in your procedures every time you create a preventive maintenance schedule, the task library will save tasks and processes until you are ready to use them.
You can then attach them to your PM schedule. When you create new PM work orders, they will already have your tasks/procedures listed. This capability will save you time from having to type in the information repeatedly. You can also copy them to multiple PMs by using the eMaint mass change feature.
Enter tasks in the detailed description or use task procedures
Two methods are available to enter tasks into the system. They can both be done manually or by importing them with a spreadsheet. Both require you to navigate to the “tasks” table and then hit the plus sign. Method one is held right in the detailed description, and method two is on a related table called task procedures.
Either method has worked for many companies. But if your goal is to report off of your tasks, or find which failures are repeating themselves, I recommend method two. Even if you are not ready to become entirely paperless at this time and are still printing your PMs, having the tasks set up so you can one day report off them will help you in the long run.
I encourage you to go to eMaint University and watch videos on different ways of entering your tasks. This will ensure you have chosen the right method to align with your company goals.
This article explains how to create tasks in eMaint and will break down both methods for you.
